The visit, held just days before Christmas, was marked by generosity, compassion and shared humanity as the University donated clothes and shoes to children living and learning at the institution.
Led by the staff from school of medicine alongside other members of staff from Maseno University, the delegation delivered the gifts as a symbol of solidarity with vulnerable children and families within the Ogal Beach community. The donation brought visible excitement and joy to the learners, many of whom welcomed the early Christmas surprise with songs, laughter and heartfelt gratitude.
Point of Grace was founded in 2011 by Rev. Dennis Meeker and Deaconess Lorna Meeker and is deeply rooted in Christian values anchored on biblical teachings, with Jesus Christ at the centre of its mission. The institution focuses on strengthening the orphan safety net through education, community support and child protection. Its approach is holistic, responding practically to the unmet needs of underserved communities while empowering households to access quality education and healthcare.

During a guided tour of the institution, the Maseno University team witnessed the breadth of services offered by the institution. The facility hosts a Chapel that reflects its strong Christian foundation, a well-equipped Medical Clinic that serves both learners and members of the surrounding community, Crop Farms that support food security, a Poultry Unit with both layers and broilers, and a Dairy Farm. These initiatives not only sustain the institution but also provide skills, employment opportunities and essential services to local residents.
The history of Point of Grace is one of faith-driven service and steady growth. The founders began their mission in 2007 while working at Springs of Life Lutheran Church in Kibera, Nairobi, rescuing orphans and vulnerable children and supporting access to education for those unable to attend school. This work later led to the establishment of Compassionate Social Care Ministries – 4KenyanKids in 2009, and eventually the opening of Point of Grace Academy at Ogal Beach in 2011.
From an initial enrolment of just 11 learners, the academy has grown remarkably. Within a decade, the number rose to 833, and today the institution supports over 1,000 beneficiaries, from Early Childhood Development through to university level. Beyond education, the academy has played a significant role in transforming the Ogal Beach community. Many staff members are drawn from the local area, providing livelihoods, while the institution actively engages in buying from and selling food items to community members. Elderly and vulnerable residents also benefit from medical services offered at the institution’s clinic.

Lorna Meeker, Director 4KenyaKids giving her remarks

Madam Betha Guya from School of Medicine Maseno University giving her remarks

Lorna Meeker, Director 4KenyaKids giving her remarksSpeaking during the visit, Deaconess Lorna Meeker, the Director of Point of Grace, expressed sincere appreciation to Maseno University School of Medicine for the gesture. “We are deeply thankful to Maseno University for standing with our children and sharing love with them during this Christmas season.
